Christian von Koenigsegg grew up with the dream of creating the perfect sportscar. After several years of planning he launched the Koenigsegg project in 1993. Designer David Craaford provided a design concept following Christian's guidelines. A tight-knit group of competent people was gathered and a prototype was assembled, the success of which enabled the foundation of Koenigsegg Automotive Ltd.

The new tires combined with the new integrated wing enhance the Koenigsegg’s already outstanding performance.
During test sessions of the new Michelin tires the Koenigsegg the car recoded up to 1.3 g in cornering force. Amazingly with the wider tires the real life test showed a CD-value of only 0.29 with a moderate down force.
On the 5th of March Koenigsegg was honoured by a visit from the Swedish King in Geneva during the ongoing auto show. His majesty Carl XVI Gustaf has a well known interest in sports cars.
On Sunday the 10th of November 2002 Koenigsegg conducted the first high-speed tests at the Nardo/Prototipo high-speed track.
The tests were kept unofficial in spite of the high media interest due to the risks involved. Koenigsegg rented the 12km long track exclusively with a medical team for a few ours in order
Koenigsegg has now completed the final crash tests for side impact. The result was extraordinary not only for sports cars but in comparison to safe family cars as well. The impact levels on the test dummies were among the lowest ever recorded.
Koenigsegg engineering has once again proved to be outstanding. The doors where still functional after the tests and the CC could safely have been driven home.
Two Koenigsegg CC were fabulously displayed in the Ballroom of the prestigious Shilla hotel in Seoul. The premiere was followed up for customers and journalists at the Everland Racetrack outside Seoul later on in the week.
In an online poll over what cars currently for sale in Europe, but not available in the US, Koenigsegg is the most wanted sports car.
The poll is featured on Motortrend.com, one of the largest car-websites in America.
When asked “What European market car would you most like to see sold in the United States?”, people have voted the Koenigsegg CC up to third place, as of this writing, right after the Ford Mondeo ST220 and the Opel Vectra. After Koenigsegg comes the Nissan Terrano and the Smart crossblade.
Koenigsegg Automotive was for the Koenigsegg CC awarded UTMÄRKT SVENSK FORM (Excellent Swedish Design) award by the institute UTMÄRKT SVENSK FORM.
The boards motivation was: “An un-Swedish Swedish product which aroused hot debate among the jury members. The exterior design confirms that this is a car with a very special character, designed for a special purpose.
